Convicted serial rapist in Graskop to be sentenced in High Court

A convicted serial rapist was due to be sentenced yesterday at the circuit of the Mpumalanga High Court sitting in Graskop, after being found guilty of rape, kidnapping and culpable homicide last month. 

MBOMBELA – The disappearance of a seven-year-old girl from Masoyi in 2018 set in motion a serious of events that led to the arrest of Lincho Believe Makhubela.

After the little girl’s family reported her missing, police officers of the Masoyi Police Station immediately started looking for her. Two days later, on June 12, 2018, grazers discovered the girl’s lifeless body in a nearby bush. A case of murder, rape and kidnapping was opened after the discovery of the body.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was the same person who was also wanted for other rapes and related charges. Detectives were convinced that they were dealing with a serial rapist.

Within two weeks, Makhubela was traced and arrested. He had his first court appearance at Masoyi Magistrate’s Court on July 10, 2018, and his case was transferred to the High Court, where he was convicted.

Makhubela was found guilty and convicted on two counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping and one of culpable homicide.
