WATCH: Ubuntu fest 2018

The festival was held at Mbombela stadium from Thursday to Sunday and hosted a variety of local and international stalls, workshops and performances that aimed to bring people together with a sense of peace and belonging.

MBOMBELA – The essential meaning of the word ubuntu, humanity towards others, came through clearly at the 2018 Ubuntu Fest.

A great attraction of the festival was interaction with different cultures. One of these were the Khoi-San tribe who arrived in busses and set up their tents to show people more about their way of life. “We want to take back everything that God promised us. We want to show people that the Khoi-San are a caring group who welcome outsiders with open arms,” said Willem Johannes Louw, one of the tribes’ elders and a pastor.

Artists from all over the world performed ranging from Nestor and Michel that came all the way from Spain, to Dave Norwoord that made the trip from Los Angeles.

It was, however, our local artists Nianell and Chris Chameleon that drew the biggest crowd. Chameleon, who performed on Saturday evening, shared his journey of self-discovery with the crowd. He sang songs with lyrics like “find yourself, then groove on it” to further enhance the ubuntu mantra held up by the festival.

This festival truly had a harmonious feel to it and was the perfect way to unwind after a week of stress to regain control of your life. Like Nestor and Michel said in one of their songs: “I am, that I am.”
