Pastor arrested for human trafficking

The victim was smuggled into the country from Swaziland.

EERSTEHOEK – A-32-year-old Pastor was arrested for human trafficking on Wednesday and will appear in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

According to Hawks spokesman Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, members from the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Unit followed-up on information received on November 10, regarding a 22-year-old undocumented victim who was allegedly smuggled into the country from Swaziland.

“The man of cloth had allegedly promised the victim a salary to play musical instruments in his church.”

Months later, when the victim realized the suspect was not keeping his end of the bargain, he decided to return back to his home country.

“He was apprehended by immigration officials whilst attempting to cross the border near Oshoek port of entry.”

When he related the story about how he was brought to the country to the officials, the matter was referred to the Hawks for investigation which resulted in the suspect’s arrest.

The Pastor  is also from Swaziland.
