The Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town in 2006 and started with only 180 shoeboxes. In 10 years the project has grown to a total of 652 180 shoeboxes being donated. The boxes are distributed to more than 1 000 recipient’s facilities, through more than 60 satellites around South Africa and Namibia.

Donors give gifts to children whose names, ages and genders are known.

There are three initiatives within the Santa Shoebox Project: Pledge a Santa shoebox, donate rain ponchos and funds – which are used for skills training – and for the first time you will be able to select a child and purchase a Virtual Santa Shoebox which gets put together by the volunteer team.
