Norbert puts on a stellar performance

Judging from his performance at Lowveld High School's interhouse meeting last Saturday, it seems Norbert Ponnisammy's injury is something of the past.

At last year’s South African School Championships in Bloemfontein, he failed to complete the 100 metres and had to withdraw from long jump after suffering a niggle to his hamstring.

However, at LHS’ interhouse he was presented with the senior victor ludorum trophy after claiming two more gold medals in the 200 metres (21,38) and long jump (6,80) respectively.

Nolwazi Mashaba, who was crowned triple-jump champion in Bloemfontein, was awarded the junior victrix ludorum trophy.

She improved on her performance since last year with a distance of 11,05 and now boasts a massive jump of 11,19.

Her 5,30 metres in the long jump was a solid performance worth 948 points on the ABSA table.

Norbert would have been a strong competitor at Saturday’s Vodacom athletics meeting at Hoërskool Nelspruit, with a speedy time of 10,47 seconds in the 100 metres. Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool’s Ruben Meiring won a gold medal in this item, in a time of 10,60 seconds.

Norbert will be a candidate for the gold medal at this year’s Mediclinic Interhigh hosted by Hoërskool Barberton.
