MBOMBELA – A 24-year-old woman died and her 29-year-old husband seriously injured when the vehicle he was driving crashed 30 kilometres from Mbombela on the Sabie Road at about 09:30 this morning.
The Sabie residents were travelling home in a Nissan Qashqai.
Skid marks on the road indicate that he braked hard for some reason at the start of a long, gentle right curve in the road. The vehicle went off the right verge of the road about 150 metres further on, tumbled 15 metres down a steep embankment and came to a stop 15 metres further into the dense bush.
She was dead when emergency services arrived and he suffered serious leg and facial injuries. He was rushed to Mediclinic Nelspruit by ambulance.
