There’s been many collabs before with local designers and clothing chain retailers knowing the value in the concept.
Aside from exposing younger designers, these add affordability so regular consumers can also enjoy something from a collection they might not have had access to in the past.
On August 15, global fast-fashion house H&M will release their first South African collab, and it could be one of the best the country has ever had.
Runway staple Mantsho will be in all the country’s H&M stores, online stores as well as at selected spots around the globe.
Mantsho x H&M is an exciting collection celebrating vibrant Africa – with modern edgy designs for women.
The range features a variety of styles including flowing, easy-fitting cuts, frills and gathers in a range of colour palettes from blues, browns to blacks, hues of pink and amber reds.
There’s also Afrocentric fashionable accessories which include shoes, earrings and a clutch bag.
“This is my love letter to the world from Africa,” says Mantsho’s head of design Palesa Mokubung. “I hope customers around the world will enjoy this ensemble of my standout pieces from my last three collections.”
The H&M collection follows Sho Madjozi’s collab with Edcon, showing that designs rooted in Africa can quickly become best sellers.
Mantsho was established in 2004 and has since showed on runways in Greece, India, Jamaica, Nigeria, Botswana and Senegal.
For the Mantsho release on August 15, Sandton City, V&A Waterfront, Mall of Africa, Gateway Theatre of Shopping and Canal Walk Shopping Centre will open at 8am.
