Recipe of the day: Easy three ingredient cheese scones

Published by

Scones are one of the most popular treats around this time of the year and in most South African homes, locals preferred them done in a traditional way but still have a Mzansi flavour.

Instead of using buttermilk, South African scones recipes can sometimes substitute this for amasi and the same can be said for cheese.

Savoury scones are just as delicious as sweet treats the recipe is so versatile and can easily accommodate many add-ons.

This recipe is super simple, it only has three ingredients, the self-raising flour helps you on cutting some time to make them, as you don’t need to add baking powder, baking soda and salt.

These cheesy scones are great for breakfast, lunch and as savoury a “biscuit” for supper.

  • 3 cups of buttermilk

Makes 12 cheese scones.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Spray a 12 cup muffin pan with cooking spray.
  2. Mix ingredients until blended. The batter should have a drop scone consistency.
  3. Spoon batter into muffin cups until 3/4 full.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Remove from oven. Allow to cool for 5 minutes and turn out onto a cooling rack, or into a lined basket.
