How to make a bee flowerpot

Get your little ones excited about gardening with this adorable flowerpot bee character! This bee flowerpot is not just cute and fun to make, it’s also perfect for growing your own herbs. So let’s get crafting and get ready to see your kids bloom with joy!
Prep: 1-2 hours, plus drying time
You will need
- Acrylic paint (yellow, black)
- Paintbrush
- Two small clay or terracotta plant pots
- Glue
- Small styrofoam ball (round)
- Pom-pom
- Black pipe cleaner
- Googly eyes
- Glue gun (optional)
- Ribbon
Method
- Begin by painting the outside of your pots white (this will help the yellow look bright and even). Allow to dry, then paint a yellow layer – you may need to do more than one coat. Allow to dry between each layer of paint.
- Pain the styrofoam ball black. This will be the bee’s head.
- Paint black horizontal stripes around the outside of the pots. When painting the stripes, it’s easiest to hold the paintbrush still and move the pot, not the other way around. Allow to dry.
- Put the pots on top of each other – the top one upside down, the bottom one the right way up. Glue together (using a glue gun works best for this step).
- Apply glue to the bottom of the foam ball and attach to the top of the pot, hold in place until it stays. Allow to dry.
- Cut your pipe cleaner to approximately 12cm in length and then bend into a V shape to make your antennae. Glue to the top of styrofoam ball.
- Cut the pipe cleaner to approximately 15 cm in length. Glue to the back of the pot for the bee’s arms.
- Glue two googly eyes onto the styrofoam ball and draw on the bee’s facial features.
- Finish by using a piece of ribbon, tie a bow and stick to the back of the pot. This will be the bee’s wings.
- Allow to dry.
