Yun-Li is changing the face of hip-hop

At only seventeen Lethabo ‘YunLi' Thobejane, is already a household name through her music.

At this tender stage of her life, she is breaking musical ground and taking hip-hop to another level with her Motswako style.
Born and raised in Moshate village in the Sekororo area in the Maruleng district, her love for hip-pop began when she was about 12-years-old, when she was in grade 5.

However, she only started taking it seriously in 2018 and has since then she recorded seven songs.
She recently released her debut album, The World’s Shadow, which consists of her four singles.

The EP includes songs such as Ditoro tsaka and Chance to Heaven featuring Ntebe.
The young muso told the Herald that her music gives a voice to the voiceless.
“With my music I address subjects that are swept under the carpet such as poverty, gender-based violence (GBV) and injustices.

“I’m trying to show those who are going through a difficult time that there is always a way out .
“They must know that giving up is not an option, but they can stand up, dust themselves off and try again,” she said.
Her musical inspiration growing up was Lyrical Wa Motlokwa & Fifi Cooper.

Currently she says Makhadzi inspires her and she hopes to one day perform on stage with her. She has shared a stage with artists such as Zanda Zakuza, PHB Finest, Mack Eaze, King Monada and Jobe London amongst others.
Her music can be found in all online musical stores.
