Hoedspruit author self-publishes children’s book

Tracy Millar from Hoedspruit recently published a children's book called Gerald And Friends, which is about a giraffe calf who lives with his parents and friends on a wildlife estate in Limpopo.

“Gerald has a crooked ear but a ‘no care’ attitude about it and only cares for going on great adventures with his best friend Daisy the duiker. In this adventure, Gerald and his bestie Daisy meet two new friends. They all get lost in the bush and bump into some scary animals. How will they ever find their way back home? The story has an element of bullying (crooked ear) as well as educational facts about the animals which are asked in the questions on the last page,” Tracy told the Herald.

Tracy saw it fit to engage children in books through writing as it helps them improve with the school. “Reading is crucial for everyone and it starts with our children, reading is all about acquiring knowledge and knowledge is power. “My research suggested that children love to read about animals, and South Africa has an abundance of beautiful wild animals. So why not focus on that and keep it local?
“The more our children learn about our conservation, the more they will look after it in years to come. The book is for children around the age four to eight years,” added
