The Mopani district netball team has once again proven why it is one of the best teams in the country. This comes after winning all their games in the B1 category qualifying to go to the finals, but unfortunately lost 33 – 65 to the Johannesburg B team in Cape Town on Friday, December 10. Despite the loss, coach Joseph Nkuna told the Herald that he is happy with the performance of his team. “I’m proud of the girls, we made our mark at the championship despite only having one training camp due to lack of resources,” he said.

“The team was motivated and it showed on the court.” The team almost did not make it to the championship because they did not have money for their accommodation until an anonymous donor gave them R10 000. Nkuna however thanked the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in Mopani which assisted with transportation and team kits. The local team won gold last year and also in 2019 in the same competition. Shongile Hlungwana was once again selected for the national team which will play during the World Cup next year in Cape Town.
