Leon-ou passionate about music

One of Phalaborwa’s loved artist, song writer and beat maker, LEON-OU, is still thriving in the music industry.

The artist whose real name is Oupa Mathebula was born and raised in Humulani Village just outside Phalaborwa.

He told the Herald that he started teaching himself music production in 2009, but only started producing professionally in 2016 after the release of his first single ‘Vanavela’.

He took a different route from his family members who are mostly in the construction industry.

The Afro house king has over the years shared stages with multiple well- known artists such as Uhuru, Prince Rhangani, Janisto and Ck and Lee skinnyfish just to name a few.

With his amazing producing skills he has done beats and recordings for artists such as Bekky Modjadji, N-k Vortex, Lee Skinnyfish, Master Pule, Chenene Beast, Finest the Prince, Livers Ngobeni (Gospel singer who was nominated at Limpopo Music Awards(LIMA18), Xitsonga Gospel Music Awards(XIGMA) and GAMA Awards) Mellow, Makeizar, Queen Tsaki, Vuyi the Kwasa kwasa queen, Gezani the Bush rapper, won Best Hip Hop Venecular (Golden Star Awards), Xigubu xa Matsonga, Baffei, Tintswalo, Angelic Voices, Mokgadi Kobeng, Brilliant Maluleke, Yow Bee, D-Lizer, Jonico and Miss B.

He also participated on the music talent show called phangweni vibes auditions in 2017. One of his songs “Hi Mina Ningata Na Leswi” was played as a background soundtrack at ETV’s Rhythm City soapie.

He has performed all over the province and also got a chance to go to perform Mozambique in 2017.

His work is also recognised in the music fraternity as has been ominated at the GAMA Awards-Best Music Producer category, Limpopo Music Awards( LIMA19) for Best Kwaito artist and Best4 Phaltown 2019.
