Print artist launches his own shoe brand

Mbuyelo Mathebula is a 24-year-old young man from Dzingidzingi outside Giyani who launched his very own shoe brand called Goi’nut Footwear in April.

“This brand comes from my artwork,” he told the Herald.

“I started to do hand printing in 2017 and printed walls, clothing brands and shops.

“I also did shoe prints and that is where the idea of having my own shoe brand started,” said Mbuyelo.

In 2019 he attended an event where DJ Sbu was the guest speaker on how to create your own brand and run a successful business.

“I immediately made work of it and named my brand Goi’nut Footwear (meaning black shades) in honour of my heritage,” he added.

He said he faces challenges such as a lack of financing, and although he is receiving orders, it is still very limited.

He dreams of one day having a successful business like other South African shoe brands.

“I want my shoes to be like Bathu and Drip, I want it to become known and loved.

I sell my shoes at R700 a pair.

“Every pair is custom made and when ordering, a customer pays a deposit of R400.

The balance is paid on delivery. “I use Pep and Postnet to deliver,” he concluded.
