Fast cars adourn our roads

It was a colourful and beautiful sight over the weekend as members of the Porsche Club (Central Region) adourned the roads around Tzaneen with their beautiful cars.

Heads turned as the 31 cars cruised along the local routes. The petrol heads came from all over the country from as far as Gauteng and the Free State.

The club members spent their weekend getaway at Fairview Hotel in Tzaneen.

They visited tourist attractions in the area such as Haenertsburg and Magoebaskloof on Saturday.

Celliers Van Niekerk, chairperson of the Porsche Club Central Region told Herald that the club has been active for the past 60 years.

“It is a group of primarily car enthusiasts. Twice a year we travel to an area which is scenic and has good roads. We were supposed to visit Tzaneen in March, but due to Covid-19 we had to postpone the event. As a result this is our first getaway for 2020,” he said.

Van Niekerk added that the club is growing and especially women are joining in increasing numbers.

He said that if you are an enthusiast of the brand but do not own a Porche, you are also allowed to join.

“We have altered our constitution to accommodate about 10% of non-Porsche owners, but they have to be fanatics of the brand.”

Married couple Sanjay and Bashni Nana, owners of the new 718 Spyder, were also part of the group.

The Nanas first Porsche was the 911 Carrera S (2013 model) and this year they decided to buy the Spyder.

The pair have been part of the club for the past seven years.

They said they have only had great experiences with their Porche family. As grandparents they treasure their outings in their Porche.

It affords them to spend time with each other away from the children.

Their youngest son joins them on the trips from time to time.

“What I love about the German brand is that you have choices in colours and the degree of luxury is unmatched. Obviously it is reliable, is comfortable and turns heads when you are on the road. The club is like a family, we have weekends away, events and competitions,” Sanjay added.

Club members thanked Marinda Thomas, owner of Fairview Hotel for their wonderful reception. For more information follow the Porsche Club SA or Porsche Club Central Region on Facebook.
