Tzaneen learners jive to the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge

Tzaneen Primary School has joined the worldwide #JerusalemaDanceChallenge which has taken the internet by storm.

The challenge has gone viral and aims to spread positivity as the world is faced with the Covid-19 pandemic. The hit song Jerusalema by Limpopo born DJ and record producer, Master KG, featuring South African vocalist Nomcebo Zikode, has received more than 70 million views on YouTube. The school’s head of department for extra curricular activities, Helashia Biewenga, said they felt the need to join in the challenge to make their Grade 7’s feel special and spread some positivity.

“They have so little to do this year because of Covid-19. It happened in the year that was suppose to be the most exciting year in their primary school career,” she said. She added that the Grade 7 learners usually have something to look forward to as most of them aspire to play in the school’s first teams either in hockey, cricket, rugby, tennis or netball. She said some wished to be part of the senior choir. “They are also going to miss out on the annual cycle tour. We just felt like doing something special for the learners, something fun which has not been done before,” she said. The kitchen staff, general assistants and teachers also joined in during the challenge.

“The dance was uplifting and inspiring, the learners enjoyed it and we just wanted to them to create some memories with their friends, teachers and the staff and to do something positive as a team,” she said.
