Spread a little sunshine

We all need a little sunshine in our lives and SPAR Proteas netball captain Bongi Msomi has the answer – sign up for the SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge on September 26.

With the entire SPAR Women’s Challenge series for 2020 having been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, SPAR has organised a virtual challenge. Women around South Africa are invited to spread a little sunshine by entering the virtual challenge. “SPAR has done so much for women’s sport and they’ve been contributing some great initiatives to sport over the year, certainly my sport, netball, would not have prospered the way it has without SPAR’s support,” said Msomi.

She has taken part in the SPAR challenge series and a number of their other events – mainly because she loves the vibe of the SPAR Challenge and the family culture they have. “So I am challenging my fellow netball Proteas – and other sportswomen – to spread a little sunshine by entering this virtual challenge. We might not be able to be together with our teammates and friends but we can still use a day like this one to have fun and even have our own group targets that we can share on social media on the say,” she said.

On 26 September, people who have entered, can run, jog, walk, skip or even dance their own challenge at their own pace, choosing their own route and completing their challenge at any time between six in the morning and six at night. They then share their experience on social media, using the hashtags #BeSunshine or #SPARVirtualChallenge.

The organisers are hoping to set a world record for the number of entrants in a women’s virtual challenge. For an entry fee of only R50, each entrant will receive a challenge t-shirt, a buff and challenge magazine. For every entry, SPAR will donate a food parcel to a survivor of Gender Based Violence (GBV). Entering the SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge is easy – enter online at www.sparvirtualchallenge.co.za. Participants can collect their challenge packs at their chosen SPAR store two weeks before the virtual challenge or have it delivered by courier at an extra fee.
