Hoedspruit initiative reaps good harvest

The bi-monthly report details all the activities that the Farmwatch took part in for the safety of their communities.

Due to Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown, there hass been a decrease in illegal activities in Hoedspruit and surrounding areas.

This is according to a report by Hoedspruit Farmwatch’s SMART Communities bi-monthly report. The report highlighted incident reports from February to end of May.

SMART Communities is the initiative of Hoedspruit Farmwatch and C-DASS (Crime Data Analysis and Support Services), developed to assist the many (and growing) community safety and security forums to gather relevant data that will assist them in getting a better understanding of the crime dynamics in an area and also enable them to assess and develop suitable strategies and focus points on how best to tackle and mitigate crime in their areas.

Farmwatch is made up of volunteers who give their time on a willing basis, wherein the report has a total of 233 number of people volunteering to help combat crime and assist communities where need be.

According to the report, the incident statistics recorded one house or building fire; five uncategorised responses; three general theft incidents and three burglaries or break-ins. In addition, they conducted 13 roadblocks, one rural village visit and held two observation events.
