TZANEEN: How to make dad feel important on his day

Be open to trying new things to show your beloved father that he means a lot.

Contrary to the belief that Father’s Day is just a day on the calendar which is hardly necessary, making dad feel special this Sunday can surely make a big difference.

Speaking to a few locals, Letaba Herald asked how they would be celebrating Father’s Day.

“As much as I appreciate having my father in my life, the day is pointless to me. Even more so, it goes to show that men aren’t ther ones to be celebrated because this year’s Father’s Day falls on the same Sunday as Youth Day,” stated Nkateko Ntini.

Nkateko Ntini who believes that Father’s Day should stop being celebrated.

Motlatso Kubayi however had a different view to share on this.

“It is true that our mothers and just women in general have the most dominence when it comes to being celebrated and having days dedicated to celebrating them. But that does not mean our fathers should be left out just because the day to celebrate them falls on a day when the rich history of South African youth is celebrated. If anything, as we celebrate our mothers on mother’s day, the same effort we make and the surprises we plan should also be done for the fathers,” she exclaimed.

She further stated that the best way to make Father’s Day truly memorable, is by doing the things that your father loves.

“If he enjoys watching a game of soccer, then try on that day to watch at least one game with him. I know my father loves a good braai, so I am going to spend my day doing that and just spending time with him and the family. They might try to steal the shine (she said with a giggle) but that won’t stop me from making sure that he enjoys the day and that he knows it’s about him. Fathers deserve the love and appreciation too,” stated Kubayi.

Lloyd Junior shared a picture of him and his father as they were going to play golf a few years ago. He plans to have yet another day playing one of the sports his father enjoys this Father’s day.

“My father loves playing golf, he has been teaching me for a while now and as much as I don’t like it, I play it just so he can be happy. So this Father’s Day, just to make him happy, we are going to play golf again,” stated a young Lloyd Junior.
