The most important security features to prospective buyers

Putting a property on the market requires a look over its best, attention grabbing features. Make sure these security features are top of your list.

Security features are important to South African home buyers. But sellers need to realize that in fact they aren’t just features anymore, but a top priority to many buyers in the property market. So if you’re thinking of selling your home, or you’ve already made the decision and you’re trying to figure out what is worth upgrading and what isn’t before putting it on the market, make sure you have the following security features at least.

Alarm

While many of us wouldn’t dream of moving into a house that doesn’t have an alarm, there are a number of people who still haven’t had one installed. According to Nina Smith of Lew Geffen of Sotheby’s International Realty, “An alarm, in particular, is an essential if you are selling your home.” Alarm’s these days not only secure your actual property, but also include outdoor features in the form of beams, that detect if anyone is approaching your property from your garden.

Outdoor lighting

In the past, outdoor lights have been used more for ensuring you have enough light while entertaining at night. Today, outdoor lighting, particularly sensor lights, are very useful in shining a spotlight on potential movement on a property. Smith advises that security not only be limited to the walls of the property, but that its surroundings be protected too. With outdoor lighting, potential buyers will feel better knowing that potential burglars have nowhere to hide.

Security gates

Security gates come in all shapes and sizes, from slam lock gates fitted to front and back doors, to automatic garage gates that secure cars and driveways at night. The less there is to protect vulnerable space, the less interested buyers will be. While some will be happy to have these installed
