Artist workshop rocks in Nkowankowa

Munghana Lonene FM hosted the Xitsonga Music Awards (XMA) Artist Workshop in the Nkowankowa Community Hall recently.

The workshop was attended by local and upcoming musicians.

The aim of the event was to create an awareness on how the station operates with regards to music and to create a clear understanding of its role and relationship with various music artists.

Some of the issues that were discussed included the station’s requirements of local music, music submission and the importance of local music in providing entertainment in accordance with the rules and regulations set by Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

The station Manager, Lawrance Ubusi took the platform to emphasise the importance of collaboration in the music industry as well as their role as a radio station. Some of the issues brought to the table included the establishment and recognition of upcoming musicians as well as the importance of proper coordination in community projects. The upcoming XMA were also discussed and issues such as the nomination of winners were also brought to the table.

Artist, Doctor Sithole said, “As musicians we need to understand our market, our role and the role of the media and to be able to unite and work together in producing quality music, but we also need the government to provide more assistance in order to grow and address challenges where needed.”

Amongst the local artists were Benny Mayengani, Vuyelwa Mapitlula, Buti na Buti, Themba Nyathi and Elias Chauke. Various businesses within the local group holdings such as Old Mutual, Maeteko and Mhlangaveza Family Insurance took to the podium to present and introduce their brands.

Vuyelwa Maputla, a local musician said, “The workshop was beneficial and more workshops are needed in the music industry. The workshop helped us in understanding the part played by the station and the importance of collaboration and unity in this industry.”

Mughana Lonene FM’s Marketing Manager, Vongi Nkanyane was pleased with the outcome of the event.
