TZANEEN:The Living Rock wins Best Gospel Group

Tzaneen based Gospel group, The Living Rock, were crowned the Best Gospel Group in South Africa at the Ingoma Awards in Johannesburg recently.

Hardly five years in existence the local group has achieved so much, with two live recording albums under their belt and having been nominated st various awards ceremonies including the Xitsonga Music Awards 2018.

Started by Kgositshwale from Bolobedu after he was inspired by raw local young talent from different churches.

They recorded their first live album in December 2015 titled ‘Ka thapelo’ and in 2017 they recorded their second live album called ‘Jeso o lerato’.

Their sound is not a normal gospel sound, they call their music ‘pure African sound’.

“We do African Gospel music, we do different sounds such as kwasakwasa, Xibelani and a bit of international sound.

“As Christians we have duty to reach everyone with our songs and by incorporating different sounds we are trying to reach the people (church goers) we would not normally reach,” explained Hlayiseka Shikwambana, Marketing Director and Bassist of the Living Rock.

The award winning group has performed at events such as Mapungubwe Gospel Festival 2017, Thobela Gmail Gospel Festival 2017 and Xibelani Cultural Show 2018, to name but a few.

“We would like to acknowledge the support we received from our fans and especially with this award we were voted for by our fans.

“We promised to keep on producing great and spirit uplifting music just for them and to raise the name of Christ,”
added Shikwambana.
