And this year’s SAFTA winners are…
The South African Film and TV Awards took place over the weekend. Here is the full list of winners for this year.
The event hosted by Phat Joe and Thando Thabethe, took place in Sun City, Bokone Bophirima on 24 March. Controversial film Inxeba emerged as the biggest winner of the evening taking home a total of six gongs. It won an award for Best Feature Film, Best Actor (Nakhane Touré), Best Achievement in Directing (John Trengrove), Best Scriptwriting for Trengove, Malusi Bengu and Thando Mgqolozana, Best Supporting Actor for co-star Bongile Mantsai and Achievement in Editing (Matthew Swanepoel).
The wins round up the 20 international awards the film has received despite claims by the Film & Publication Board Appeals Tribunal that it could not find “any… artistic value throughout the film”.
Touré, who is in Europe promoting his new album, tweeted:
I’m on the Eurotunnel from Switzerland. And I’m finding out through Twitter that I just won a @SAFTAS1 . I didn’t think I was going to be this emotional. ❤️😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️ Fuck!! Thank yooouuu pic.twitter.com/TtIHo5jWXu
