Balobedu ‘make it rain’ at the LIMAs

Artists from Bolobedu made a strong mark on the night, as they brought home some of the biggest accolades of the evening, including Best Male DJ, Best Khelobedu song, Best Jazz Album, Best Group/Duo and that most coveted Song of The Year trophy!

Saturday November 10 will go down in the history books as a night to remember.

An evening of glitz and glamour teeming with Limpopo A-listers, which saw the inaugural Limpopo Music Awards (LIMA) see light of day.

Artists from Bolobedu made a strong mark on the night, as they brought home some of the biggest accolades of the evening, including Best Male DJ, Best Khelobedu song, Best Jazz Album, Best Group/Duo and that most coveted Song of The Year trophy!

Double Trouble electrified the audience with their performance of “Be careful” at the inaugural Limpopo Music Awards

University of Limpopo LLB Graduate from Ga-Kgapane Home 2000 Cyril Malematja, who goes by the stage name “Ceephonik,” scooped the Best Male DJ award.

“I’m so happy, it’s amazing! This award is a sign that there are people out there who really appreciate my work. The industry hasn’t been easy but the support I get from University of Limpopo, Village Lifestyle and other promoters keeps me going.”

Cyril is juggling his music passion with school, he is currently enrolled at law school and says he strongly believes in education.

“I’m encouraging all the young people out there to never give up.  The industry is not easy at all. You should remain focused and be self motivated, it is possible!” concluded Ceephonik.

King Monada of “Ska bora moreki” fame, who hails from from Lenyenye, was awarded for his popular single “O wa ka DJ,” in the Best Khelobedu Song category.

Duo Jabisto & CK (Double Trouble) win Song of The Year at the Limpopo Music Awards hosted in Meropa Casino, Polokwane.

Also from Bolobedu and not new to awards was nationally acclaimed songstress Candy Tsa Mandebele, who walked away with Best Jazz Album for “Malekutu”.

The biggest trophy of the evening was handed over to Bolobedu duo Double Trouble Janisto & CK, taking home that Song of The Year title as well as Best Group/Duo.

“We want to thank the people of Bolobedu for their tremendous support and for voting for us, we really appreciate it; as well as our record label Open Mic for their massive contribution. We hope this award inspires the youth in Bolobedu, they must believe in what they do and have patience.”

Janisto says their journey in music has been a long one, dating back to the late 90’s.

“My mother likes reminding me that to get me to shut up, she would have to play the radio on full blast” chuckled Janisto.

Founder of the LIMAs Fortune Maswanganyi, popularly known as DJ Cappuccino says that the main aim is to elevate the province’s entertainment industry to a higher level; develop talent and recognize excellence.

“We commend artists from Bolobedu for starting a new genre, and for proudly singing in Khelobedu, their music is fresh and full of vibe, we are not surprised they walked away with that Song of The Year award,” Maswanganyi concluded.
