“I absolutely love my job” say WO König from Tzaneen

Police officers risk their lives daily to protect their communities, so one can say Warrant Officer Karlien König from Tzaneen SAPS is a woman in a man’s world.

The mother of three has been in the force for little over 26 years and still sees herself doing what she does best, policing.

Until recently she has been on the Bomb Squad but transferred back to CSC (the Community Service Centre) because she missed working with the community.

When asked what keeps her motivated during dangerous situations, it is quite simple; she absolutely loves what she is doing.

“That is what I love about the CSC, every day you work with different people, different opinions, different lives and cultures. You learn a lot,” she explained.

The best part for her is the fact that no day is ever the same.

When she was in the bomb squad the genuine rush was bomb disposal.

“I was born to be an officer, it’s in my blood,” she said.

Her father is a retired police man and her brother is also in the police force.

WO König worked at a bank for two years before she was recruited in 1991 with her twin sister.

Her female role-model is General Maggie Mathebula because they come a long way.

“When I started she was my Sergeant,” she explains.

She has not once looked back with tons of experience.

She believes that one needs change; WO König has been in the crime intelligence unit, done community policing, crime prevention, to only name a few.

“Trust is the most important thing to remember as a police officer, trust in the people next to you,” she said.

To keep fit WO König offer self defense 101 classes in her spare time.

Her Women’s Day message to young women is to not stand back, ever.

“Females don’t have to stand back because of our gender, go for it,” she concluded.
