Stanford Lake College sporting results

Stanford Lake College travelled to Beaulieu College over the past weekend. The results were exceptional.

The boys 1st team hockey match was a grudge match after the recent festival. They went down early in the match conceding four short corners in ten minutes with them converting one. The pressure paid off and they converted going into half time 1 – 1. In the 2nd half SLC dominated play and converted a field goal and a penalty stroke. The 2nd team boys unfortunately went down 0 – 2 and the U/15 team drew 0 – 0. Girls Hockey : The U/14s showed a lot of potential and played very well, winning their match 2-1. The U/15s dominated the whole game, but despite this, they struggled to finish off moves and drew the match 0-0. The 2nd team lost their match 4-0 but it was good for them to play on Astro. Beaulieu’s 1st team dominated the game and Stanford had a good defensive structure. However, when chances were presented, they were well utilised and the SLC girls walked away with a 1-0 win.

Squash: The squash team, consisting of four players, won two and lost two matches. They won the squash 7 – 6 on games, well done to all the players who were well led by Reese Bain, winning her match 3 – 0.

Rugby: The annual Beaulieu College derby was a massive success for all three SLC rugby teams. The u/15’s fought hard against a good Beaulieu side for their well-deserved victory, as did the 2nd Team who showed some great attacking flair. Both of these games set the tone for the 1st XV who took a lot of confidence and self-belief into their match. ‘The Badgers’ got off to a flying start, scoring 3 tries in 10 minutes due to the well-structured game plan. Josh de Goede controlled the game beautifully at flyhalf and got the backline running into space. Man of the match Adam McGaffin found some fantastic form and was dominant in both attack and defence. The 1st Team were simply too strong on the day and won the game comfortably by 31 points to 8. Well done to all three teams and thank you to all the Alumni and parents who supported them.

Netball: Even though the results did not go SLC’s way, they are slowly catching up and the girls played a great standard of netball against Beaulieu. The U/14s struggled with an extremely fast-paced game, losing to the opposition. The U/15s were most definitely the team of the weekend with a phenomenal 17-7 win. The 2nd team showed great mental toughness and were challenged on their stamina. Despite showing huge improvement as the season has progressed, they unfortunately ended with a loss. The first team came out showing sheer determination and played an extremely exciting game. They allowed a few too many goals in early on in the game and were unable to close that small gap, ending with a loss of 27-20.
