Merensky boys hockey on fire

Merensky's boys hockey proved yet again why they are a force to be reckoned with as they had representatives at both individual and team level reaping the rewards of their hard work.

Merensky’s boys hockey proved yet again why they are a force to be reckoned with as they had representatives at both individual and team level reaping the rewards of their hard work.

The U/14 and U/16 hockey boys from Merensky High School played in the Noordvaal competition.

The U/14 boys had their tournament in Krugersdorp where they played three games against Maragon, Garsfontein and Sasolburg, defeating the latter 5-0 to end 5th overall.

The U/16s traveled to Rustenburg, playing against Dr Malan, Secunda and Krugersdorp. In the final game against Krugersdorp they lost 2-3, ending 6th in the tournament.

On the individual side of things, ten Plasie hockey players represented various provincial teams.

Top of the crop was JJ Davis, who was selected for the national team at Bokkieweek. JJ has represented the ‘Verre Noord’ team for the past four years and will be touring with the U/19 SA Bokkie team overseas during November/December.

Novice, Stefan Prinsloo, also participated in Bokkieweek, representing the ‘Verre Noord’ team. His skill on the field presented him with an opportunity to be included in the U/19 Gazelle team, thus reaping the rewards of five years worth of training whilst playing for Limpopo.

Three players, namely, Samuel Modiba, Jordan Stevens and Donovan van Tonder, qualified for the U/18A Limpopo team. During the tournament this team did the best in Limpopo’s history, ending in the seventh position overall.

The U/16B Limpopo team players, Dillon de Lange, Itumeleng Makhubela, Masilo Mabilo, Ryan Jackson and Luann Botha gave their all with their team ending in the fifth position, also the best performance ever.
