Anglers enjoy end-of-season competition on Klaserie Dam

The Northern Small Craft League (NSCL) held a friendly competition and held their season prize-giving at Klaserie Dam two weeks ago.

“The top scores were very close with a couple of anglers in the running to win the grand prize of Angler of the Year. The competition was tight throughout the season and it took great dedication and hard work to finish in the top ten. Our anglers are very competitive and not a single inch was given. A true testament of their commitment to compete at the highest level,” says Derick de Bruyn, organiser of the league.

De Bruyn was also the top angler of the season which spanned over eight competitions held at Klaserie, Ebenezer and Tzaneen dams. He scored a total of 577 points to take the win. Marnus Steyn took second place overall in the league with 571 points. Jake McKee from Grietjie is in third place and Adriaan Joubert took fourth place.

Lourens Mathyssen, Flippie Smith, Clinton Ferreira, Jacques Louw, Logan van Zyl and Johan Bezuidenhout each grabbed a spot in the top ten of the league standings. “What made the competition more tense was the awesome prizes sponsored towards every event. We cannot thank our sponsors enough.”

“It is a true blessing to be associated with every one of you. We are looking forward to the 2025 season and hope that we will have many more anglers joining us!” says De Bruyn. The new season kicks off in November with a competition on the Tzaneen dam. All anglers need to join the league is a fishing rod or two and a small boat, kickboard or kayak.
