Stanfordians on a wild winning cricket streak

The U19 boys cricket team from Stanford Lake College (SLC) is on a three-match winning streak in the 2023 Limpopo Schools League.

On September 6 they took on the U19 team from Ben Vorster High School and won the match convincingly with 62 runs. The Stanfordians won the toss and elected to bat first. Opening batsman, Ryno Schultz, did well to stand for 45 balls, scoring 39 runs including two fours, eventually losing his wicket to the Vossie bowler, Divan Spangenberg in the 15th over. Zayd Moosa was outstanding with the bat, smashing 79 runs from 34 balls.

Moosa sent nine fours and five sixes to the boundary in his time at the crease with a 232.32 strike rate before he was caught out by the Vossie bowler, Ruan Sutherland in the 12th over. The Stanfordian batsmen set up a target of 193 runs from 20 overs. On the attack the Stanfordian bowlers caused an upset, sending both the Vossie opening batsmen back to the stands for a duck in the first two overs.

Things did not get easier for the Vossies as the wickets continued to fall with the scoreboard standing on 12/3 in the fifth over. Divan Spangenberg stood for 53 balls, not out, scoring 89 runs for the Vossies. He smashed eight fours and four sixes during his time at the crease. The Stanfordians limited the Vossie to 130/6 in 20 overs. Connor Veldsman took three wickets, Aiden Rosendorff took two wickets and Tristan Brett took one wicket with Dylan Turner, Veldsman, Giano October, and Moosa each fielding catches. O

n August 27 the Stanfordians steamrolled the team from Frans du Toit High School winning with nine wickets after the Fransies were all out for 48 runs in 10 overs. Veldsman took six wickets in total, taking two consecutive wickets in the fifth over with four Fransie wickets tumbling in the ninth over. Matt Allison took three wickets for Stanford. The boys from SLC also played against the Oaks Hub setting up a score of 185/10 and bowling the team from the Oaks out for 24 runs.
