Hoedspruit Sports Academy wins three-match series

Hoedspruit Sports Academy (HSA) and the Conservation Cricketers played the final of a three-match series on Sunday, July 9.

Both teams had one win under their belt, and it was a must-win for both teams if they wanted to bag the series. The Conservation Cricketers went in to bat first and put on the highest total of the series with 161 runs with the loss of eight wickets.

The top batsmen of the innings were Paul Swanepoel and Leroy Rutherford jnr, putting on a total of 34 runs each. Kyle Pretorius from HSA was the top wicket-taker with four wickets. HSA then went in to bat to chase down a target of 162 runs. They managed to chase down the target in 15.4 overs with the opening batsmen Kyle Pretorius making 35 runs off 25 balls and Duncan Mwale making 29 runs off 20 balls.

Erich Ackermann followed them to the crease to put on a whopping 67 runs off 36 balls to clinch the game and series. He was awarded man of the match. “We would like to congratulate the following players for their achievements in the series:

Top batsman of the series, Kyle Pretorius with 112 runs off 65 balls, top bowler, Kyle Pretorius taking nine wickets and top fielder, Murray Reid with three catches. “The player of the series was Kyle Pretorius with 800 points, beating second place by 447 points,” said Mickey Buyst, the founder and head coach of the academy.
