Local churches participate in sports day

Churches in Giyani participated in a sports day held on Saturday, April 1. The assemblies that took part were Bode, Bungeni, Central Daniel, Giyani South, Giyani Central, Hlanganani, Klein Letaba, Nkuzana, Hlaniki, Throne of God, Tiyani, and Watervaal.

They played soccer, netball, chess, Monopoly, Ludo, and Casino. Central Daniel won the soccer, netball, and Casino games. Giyani Central took on Giyani South on the field and won 3-1, Central Daniel played against a Bophelong Bungeni combined team and won 2-0. Giyani Central and Central Daniel were in the finals with Central Daniel beating Giyani Central 2-0.

Central Daniel coach, Brightman Mathebula said that he is very proud of how the boys performed. “I am very excited with what the boys achieved; they did an excellent job. I did not expect a win in all the games, but through hard work and discipline, they managed to do that.,” he said. In netball, Tiyani played against Giyani Central and won 9-2, Giyani South played against Bode and won 14-2, Bophelong Hlanganani combined team drew against Bungeni with a score of 6-6, and Central Daniel won against Giyani Central 13-0.

However, this match was not completed due to injuries. “We were told that we would not be the only team who will represent the Giyani region when we play at the regional level as the match was not completed even though we were already winning, and the match was nearly finished. To us, it was all about meeting fellow worshippers and having fun, and I am very happy with how the girls did,” Central Daniel coach Vistor Mongwe said.

The chess winner was Katekani Mabasa from Giyani Central and the runner-up was Nkateko Mabasa from the same church. The Monopoly winner was Felicia Matjokana from Giyani Central and the runner-up was Lavani Nkuzana from Klein Letaba. The Ludo winner was Ntiyiso Fungeni from Watervaal and in Casino, the winners were Randy Mtileni and Tiyiselani Sihlangu from Central Daniel.
