Khetani gets back on her bicycle after accident

Khetani Mushwana completed the 2023 Cape Town Cycle Tour recently after surviving an incident that almost stole her life in January.

Khetani completed the race on Sunday, March 12, with her husband, Ntwanano Mushwana, both avid cyclists. In January on a downhill stretch during their morning ride on the N1 in Polokwane, Khetani fell and had to receive facial surgery. She told the Herald it took a month before she could get on her bicycle again.

“All I wanted to do was to get back and cycle again; not riding for that long was tough, as cycling is therapeutic to me,” she said. “The incident made me realise how short life is and that nothing is guaranteed. One minute you can be with your partner and the next moment they are gone,” he said.

Ntwanano applauded his wife for not allowing fear to stop her from participating in the race. Khetani managed to complete the 109 km in a time of 05:08:57, faster than last year’s race which she achieved in a time of 05:43:04. The pair started cycling in 2020 during the lockdown and they subsequently turned into cycling fanatics.

They have since participated in a number of cycle races throughout the country. Ntwanano Ngobeni, Fumani Ntlhamu, Thobile Mushwana, and Bryan Bvuma from Tzaneen also competed in the Cycle Tour.
