Runners enjoy Giyani races

The first ever Masingita 3-in-1 Half-Marathon, was a great success.

The event had three categories; the 5km fun run, 10km, and 21.1km distances, and took place on Saturday, February 11. Runners from all over Limpopo and Gauteng were not deterred by the wet weather as they all happily participated in the event. The race started at the mall’s parking area and ran through the township and back to starting point. Ludwick Mamabolo from Nedbank Limpopo Running Club outshined the men in the 21.1km, followed by Rufus Photo of Murray and Roberts Running Club, and in third position was Isaac Mokgola
from Rainbow Athletics Club.

In the women’s event, Rosaline Isaiah, outshined all the other runners. She was followed by Joyce Netshilendzhe of Murray & Roberts Running Club and Gift Ramalebe of Nedbank Running Club in third place. Ntwanano Mabasa, marketing manager at Masingita Mall told the Herald that they wanted to introduce the people of Giyani to a healthy living lifestyle by hosting the half-marathon. “The event went exceptionally well and we are happy to have had over 500 people registering to run.

The race is an Athletics South Africa (ASA) qualifier and we are hoping to make it an annual race and add the marathon distance of 42.2km,” she said. The mall management worked with Giyani Gallopers, a local athletics club, in hosting the event. Mabasa expressed her gratitude towards the runners, supporters, Giyani residents, and sponsors.
