Play golf to change lives

“This project will assist students from the Phalaborwa region to pursue an education, as it is known that education changes people's lives for the better.”

The Matome Malatji Foundation will be hosting the Ba-Phalaborwa Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, October 1 at Hans Merensky Golf Club.  The theme of the event is ‘Play golf to change lives’. The organisation is hoping to raise funds for bursaries for the 2022 academic year.

“The aim of this charity golf tournament is to raise funds for academically deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who will be enrolling for their first year across respective institutions of higher learning in South Africa.”

“We have learnt of many students who are even struggling to raise R2000 for registrations at tertiary institutions.”   “This project will assist students from the Phalaborwa region to pursue an education, as it is known that education changes people’s lives for the better,” said Matome Malatji, founder of the organisation.  Malatji explained that the protests by students in different parts of the country earlier in the year were fueled by a lack of funding.

“It is against this background that the Matome Malatji Foundation has decided to stage the Ba-Phalaborwa Charity Golf Tournament so that students who are doing well in Phalaborwa but come from underprivileged family backgrounds can be afforded an opportunity to further their studies.“ “Our foundation believes that educating society should not be the sole responsibility of government but also shared with the private sector.”

“We are attempting to raise R2 million in this inaugural tournament and we, therefore, request companies to join us in this community development programme by sponsoring the event.” “We have packages that suit every company, from the overall sponsorship of the event to sponsoring one of the18 holes. Companies and golf players willing to participate in this charity tournament can do so by contacting the foundation on 015 065 0884 or 079 032 8006 or alternatively email:info@globalvalue.co.za for more information,” he added.  Registration for golf players is open until 15 September.
