Amateur football given go ahead to start training

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has given non-professional football permission to start training immediately but to strictly follow safety and health directives as per government regulations.

“While clubs can commence training with immediate effect, amateur football leagues and competitions will kick off at the beginning of March 2021,” said SAFA spokesperson, Dominic Chimhavi.

He said that the resumption of amateur football will be done in stages.

“The Association would like to appeal to clubs, SAFA regions and provincial structures to adhere to the SAFA Covid-19 health and safety Directive at all times to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus,” said Chimhavi.

He added that all amateur teams are expected to develop registers for use during training sessions and matches.

“All teams must buy scanners for checking temperatures at all times and no spectators should be allowed at training sessions and matches,” he said.
