TZANEEN: Makoti crowned Mopani champs

They outshined fellow teams in their groups such as Mariveni United, Tzaneen Killers FC and Hill Zebras FC with points.

The SAB League champions in the Mopani district after crushing Phalaborwa’s Youth Vision 3-0 in the play-offs at Malamulele recently.

The local team from Ramotshinyadi Village outside Tzaneen qualified to go to the finals after holding position one in Stream A with 81 points accumulated from 30 games.

They outshined fellow teams in their groups such as Mariveni United, Tzaneen Killers FC and Hill Zebras FC with points.

Their crown in the play-offs also did not come easy as they had to play two games against stream B teams where they began by smashing Setlaleng 2-1 in the first match before beating Youth Vision. Coach Peace Khosa attributes their success as a team work ranging from the management (Andrew Pilusa), players and coach.

“I’m happy that our boys played exceptional football throughout the season and we are now ready to take the provincial title,” Khosa said.

The local team will be representing the district in Jane Furse from Saturday, June 29 until Sunday, June 30.

The team which will win at the battles of the district teams will be promoted to the ABC Motsepe League. At the last four consecutive years Khosa has managed to take his teams to the final of the SAB League.

In 2016 and 2016 he led Nkowankowa Barcelona FC to the finals, in 2018 he took Baobab Zero Fake to the finals and even in 2019 he did the same with Makoti Happy Fighters.
