Callies assault a referee in the SAB League encounter
Phalaborwa outfit, Foskor Callies assaulted a referee, Adolf Malangane and abandoned a game against Nkowankowa Barcelona at Burgersdorp Artificial Pitch in their Mopani Sab League Stream encounter last Saturday.
`The match was tied 1-1 when it was halted in the 80th minute, as both teams looked keen to find the winner.
A goal apiece in both halves from Marvin Mathye and Tebogo Malupi for Barcelona and Callies respectively set up an intense mood towards the end.
Barcelona, who controlled the ball from the onset and camped at their opponents’ half in first stanza, seemed like they were going to outscore their opponents with the bigger margin but their final finish was appalling, though Foskor came back in the second half a different side and managed to grab an equalizer, were often on their back feet as Barcelona were relentless on their attack.
However, the drama unfolded when the match official Malangane, pointed to the penalty spot after he adjudged that Ntiyiso Mbombi was fouled inside the box. The call prompted the Foskor’s officials to invade the field to confront and assault the referee, who was eventually knocked down before the whole team walked out from the pitch abandoning the game.
