Chaos erupts at Nedbank Cup game

The Nedbank Cup game between Mariveni United and Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) FC was abandoned due to the supporters throwing object inside the field at Nkowankowa Stadium on Sunday.

United, who ply their trade in Mopani SAB League, and TTM, who represent ABC Motsepe League, were looking to qualify for the last 32 of Nedbank cup that will see winner rubbing shoulders with Absa Premiership teams.

The game was abruptly halted with 20 minutes still remaining on the clock while the Mariveni outfit was leading the match 1-0 when supporters started to throw missiles inside the pitch.

One beer bottle hit the match commissioner at the back before the game was stopped.

The Tshakuma based club fans were complaining about some of the referee, Dineo Raolane’s decisions and that led to fight ensuing amongst the supporters.

The cameraman was also assaulted by the Tshakuma players and officials.

They damaged his camera and bruised his left eye, though the matter was settled without involving the police, with the Tshakuma owner Fhatuwani Mlaudzi who was implicated on the saga promised to pay for the damaged equipment.

Apparently he transferred R15000 into the camera man’s bank account to stop him from opening the case against him.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) Mopani President, Vincent Ramphago condemned what had transpired at the Nkowankowa Stadium and calls for supporters to enjoy football.

“As SAFA we do not condone was have happened on Saturday and we call the fans to come to stadiums to enjoy the game not to cause chaos,” said Ramphago.

They will be disciplinary hearing to determine whether the game will be a replay or Mariveni will march to the last 32.
