Teachers participate in a fun run

The South African Democratic Teacher's Union (SADTU) Ritavi north branch hosted a wellness day celebration at the N'wamitwa tribal office recently.

The celebration consisted of a 10 km and 5 km fun walk and run and aerobics. A huge number of teachers came out in honour of the event.

“As a union we encourage teachers to live a healthy lifestyle because it will help them to be more productive at work,”said Arnold Mashele, SADTU Sports, Arts and Culture convener. Ike Malatsi won the male 10 km race, Thandazile Zitha won the female 10 km run race, Phillipine Mabuza won the females 5 km run, Vicky Mhlarhi took first position at the male 5 km run race and lastly Cinah Ngoveni took the female 5 km walk.

“I’m very happy because this year I managed to beat last year’s winner who gave me a hard time at the past race and looking at the fact that he is younger than me gives me great joy,” said Malatsi, 10 km male race winner. After the fun run and walk the teachers participated in aerobics exercises led by, Paul Mhlanga, a personal trainer. Mhlanga advised the educators to check their blood types as it will help them with choosing their diet which will help improve their health. Mashele added that they are considering making the wellness celebration an annual event since its growth from last year.
