First time runners talk about the Comrades

Corné Fritz, Daniel Mabulana and Daleen Venter ran their first Comrades marathon this year.

Letaba Herald found out how they experienced it.

The Comrades was labeled a downhill run but according to Venter there was a lot of uphill running.

Mabulana says that he wants to compete again next year and that he will increase his running pace to finish in less than 10 hours.

Fritz would also like to compete next year.

When asked to describe the Comrades for people that has never been Fritz said: “It is amazing. Every person along the road motivates you. Early morning when it was still dark and cold the people stand there, some still in their pajamas and drink coffee to see the start at 05:30.

Venter also said that it was one of the most unforgettable and awesome days in her life.

She also believes that anyone can do it and that anything is possible.

Mabulana’s advice to first time runners are to train hard and be fully prepared for the Comrades as it is the toughest marathon.

Also that, they must not panic during the race as it may affect their mentality.

Venter and Mabulana are determined to win the back to back medal next year.
