Rhino sevens rugby in full swing

THE Rhino Sevens Rugby Series, hosted by Merensky High School, is in full swing.

It is the third year for Plasieland to present this unique tournament where proceeds go to the great national cause of saving rhino’s countrywide. On Saturday 22 August the first qualifying rounds were played at Merensky. The twenty two participating teams came from Hoërskool Nelspruit, Middelburg High School, Rob Ferreira High School (White River), HTS Tom Naudé (Polokwane), Hoërskool Montana (Pretoria), Lichtenburg High School, Hoërskool Wonderboom, Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom, Louis Trichardt High School, Hoërskool Pietersburg (Polokwane), Sutherland High School (Centurion), Frans du Toit High School (Phalaborwa) and Merensky High School.After an exciting, very hot day with several matches for each school, the u.19 Shield was won by Hoërskool Montana, the Bowl by Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom, the Plate by Middelburg High School and the Cup by Hoërskool Nelspruit. Merensky’s first team ended in the fourth position. Other qualifying tournaments to follow in this series are at Sutherland High School on 29 August, Hoërskool Montana on 3 en 4 September, and Middelburg High School on 19 September. The Rhino 7’s Rugby finals will be hosted by Merensky in the town of Skukuza in the Kruger National Park from 24 to 26 September. Nelspruit, Wonderboom, Middelburg, Merensky and Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom qualified for this event.
