Local cricketers help Limpopo to victory at CSA Women’s Champs

Five local players represented Limpopo at the CSA National Women’s Championships in Bloemfontein, helping the team to two wins and one rain-affected draw.

LIMPOPO – Five talented cricketers from the local community recently represented Limpopo at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) National Women’s Championships held in Bloemfontein.

The players, Shakira Malatji, Paballo Mogofe, Salphina Motloutsi, Sophie Motloutsi, and Helen Rasebotsa, formed part of the provincial squad that competed in the prestigious tournament.

Accompanying the team was local coach Maverick Sedibe, who served as the assistant coach for the Limpopo side. Sedibe praised the players’ performance, describing it as outstanding.

Limpopo played five matches during the competition, securing two victories, suffering one loss, and drawing one match due to rain.

One of the team’s highlights was an 18-run win over Northern Cape Heat. Limpopo posted a total of 114 all out and successfully defended it by bowling out Northern Cape for 98. Another match, against Boland Cricket, was called off due to wet conditions.

The overall winners of the tournament were the North West, who earned promotion to Division 1 of the CSA league following their victory.

The Limpopo team also featured players from the Nkowankowa Hub, based in the Tzaneen area, further highlighting the depth of cricketing talent in the province.
