Young and upcoming soccer stars to attend talent search this Saturday

Aspiring soccer players across Limpopo are invited to take part in the Mopani soccer talent search at Nkowankowa Stadium from 08:00 on Saturday, June 8.

This will be the fourth edition of the event hosted and founded by soccer coach, Peace Khosa. Khosa told the Herald that the aim is to give young and upcoming soccer stars a platform to showcase their talent and hopefully be signed to professional teams. “Since the start of this talent search four years ago, we have several players who have been signed by professional teams such as Baroka FC and Polokwane City.

Most of these players are now breadwinners.” Anyone who was born in 2003 to 2008, is welcome to take part as well as teams scouting for potential players. Khosa is the current coach of Tzaneen United FC. The team played in the provincial play-offs of the ABC Motsepe League recently. He is also a founder of Nkowankowa Barcelona Development Team, which focusses on young players.

Through this team, he has given countless players opportunities to be signed by development teams, such as Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Transnet School of Excellence. Two local players, Keneilwe Mocheti and Vicky Mukhawana are on the Kaizer Chiefs Development Team, with Mukhawana also having a contract with the Chiefs first team.

“To me, football is not about promoting myself or about money, but about giving another kid a chance to become a professional player. “When I broke my legs at the age of 14, I was sad that I couldn’t play soccer anymore, until I was   encouraged to start coaching and helping teams and learners succeed is truly a fulfilling feeling.”

It costs R100 per player to take part in the event, however, Khosa says even players who cannot afford to pay the required amount are still welcome. Players need to bring an ID, or birth certificate, training kit, and soccer boots. Khosa says vendors and businesses are welcome to trade on the day at the stadium.
