Trail runners take on the Beyond the Mountain

Trail ‘blazers’ tackled the routes in Franklyn Park at Lowveld Trail Running's Beyond the Mountain trail run on February 24.

The trail run took place at the foothills of the Mariepskop mountain with Martin Swart taking first place overall in the 20km race. He completed the race in 1:57:12. David Rose took second place overall crossing the finish line ten seconds later. Karine Bezuidenhout was the first woman to cross the finish line completing the trail in 2:02:15.

Marizan van Rhyn took second place. In the 10km race, Marno van der Meulen took first place overall, winning the men’s open division. He ran the route in 58:30. Francois Steyn won the men’s veteran division and Daniele Viljoen took first place in the women’s open division. Martin Severin took first place in the u/18 division and Rob Severin took first place in the men’s masters division.

Mornae Kleunhans won the u/12 division and Hanlie van der Meulen won the grand master division. In the 5km race, 40 runners took on the route. Malwanda Ndlovu took first place overall and he won the men’s u/16 division. Ryan Thomson second place overall winning the open men’s category. Niwaku Nangani took third place overall and second place in the u/16 division.

Kevania Naidoo won the women’s division and Jess Craig took second place. The next Lowveld Trail running event is the first leg of the Pam Golding Wildlife Estate series taking place at Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate on March 23. Go to lowveldtrailrunning.co.za enter and for more information.
