30 Shamu swimmers ready for interprovincial gala

Thirty swimmers from Shamu Swimming Club got selected to represent Limpopo Aquatics at the inter-provincial gala set to take place at Stanford Lake College on September 24.

Shamu swimmers, Joshua Bekker, Jake Whitaker, Ulrich Goosen, George Taylor, Josh Kuisis, Ulrich Engelbrecht, Christiaan Jansen van Vuuren, Jamie Venter, Ethan Schmidt, MJ Pohl, Richard Gotze, Joshua Joubert, Tiaan Kruger, Phillip Schaap, Dario Wasley (TBC) Person Mumba, Jason Loucao, Ruan H-Kruger, Marnus Kruger, Inge du Plessis, Jany Norval, Mari Bruwer, Marny du Plessis, Allisa Dampier, Elne Haynes, Mignon Smit, Keira Booth, Yvonne Botha, Donia Smit and Amelia Booth were all selected for the Limpopo Aquatics team.

A total of 101 swimmers were selected to represent the province after the third Limpopo Aquatics age group gala took place at Ben Vorster High School on August 13.
At this age group gala 59 of Shamu’s swimmers got in the pool and made the most of home-town advantage, setting good times to start off the season.
“All our swimmers swam with enthusiasm and the possibility of being selected for the Limpopo team.

Thirty of the swimmers selected for the Limpopo team hail from Shamu, which is the largest group per club to have been selected. Congratulations to all swimmers on this achievement,” says Sheila Grobbelaar from Shamu Swimming Club.
Joshua Bekker took first place in the 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 200m medley and 50m freestyle events. Bekker also took second place in the 50m butterfly event.

Yvonne Botha took first place in the 50m back stroke (34.94s) and Mari Bruwer took first place in the 100m freestyle (1:21.15s) and the 50m freestyle (34.74s) events.
Inge du Plessis also had a good day in the pool and got first place in the 100m freestyle and 200m medley (3:46.91s).
Marny du Plessis took first place in each event she entered, the 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke (1:25.36s), 100m breaststroke (1:42.16s), the 50m butterfly and 200m medley.

Huibrecht Engelbrecht took first place in the 50m back stroke. Ulrich Engelbrecht took first place in the 100m butterfly and in the 100m back stroke.
Ulrich Goosen took first place in the 50m butterfly and second place in the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.
Ruan Hanazeck Kruger took first place in three events. He swam the 100m butterfly in 55.40s, the 100m freestyle in 51.35s and the over 50 freestyle in 23.75s.

Elné Haynes took first place in the 100m backstroke and 200m
medley and second place in the other three events she entered.
Joszua Joubert took first place in the 100m freestyle (57.87s), 100m breaststroke (1:16.73s) and the 50m freestyle (25.73s) events.
Christiaan Jansen van Vuuren took first place in the 100m butterfly event and Josh Kuisis took first place in the 50m backstroke.

Joshua Lacau took first place in the 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke (1:01.52s) events. Pearson Mumba took first place in the 50m breaststroke.
Jany Norval took first place in the 50m freestyle event.
Rinae Ntsauba took first place in the 50m butterfly event.

Mauritz Pohl got first place in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events, completing the 100m event in 1:34.22s.
Ethan Schmidt took first place in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke events. Liandri Terblanche took first place in the 200m backstroke event.
Dario Wasley took first place in the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.
