Leopards sign local players

Premier soccer league club, Black Leopard FC known to its faithful supporters as "Lidoda duvha" recently promoted two young players from their Multichoice Diski Challenge team.

According to Black Leopards interim coach, Mongezi Boboe, the players who got promoted are lanky striker Tebogo Modiba (21) from Kgapane township and midfielder Selby Rapatsa (21) from Ga-Matipane village in Bolobedu.

Tebogo, who played for Orlando Pirates development team before joining Black Leopards in 2017 was on the bench when “Lidoda duvha” played Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively, while Selby is still at home due to injury.

Tebogo was part of the team which is playing in the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs against Ajax Cape Town and TTM.

At Leopards they were joined by yet another professional player from Bolobedu, Isaac Masia. The hard tackling defender has been with the club for four years.

Both Tebogo and Selby are products of Tshepo Soccer Academy based in Kgapane township.

The academy grooms young talented football players for reserve sides of professional clubs in the country.

They have already promoted a number of young players to Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates and Maritzburg United to name just a few.

The two players expressed jubilation and thanked the academy owner and coach Tshepo Sebopetsa for grooming them in to good players. They also thanked coach Bobe, who has been their coach from the MDC, for believing in them.

“My goal has always been to play professional football by the age of 23 and I am glad it’s happening,”said Modiba.

Academy coach Tshepo Sebopetsa congratulated his players and wished them all the best in their professional careers.

He also encouraged parents to allow their talented kids to play football. He said football is a high income career and it should not be taken for granted.
