Fire under control in Kruger Park

The late-night fire at Olifants and Satara Rest Camps is under control with guests being relocated and business operations continuing.

LIMPOPO – The fire that gutted three Olifants Rest camp bungalows and caused minimum damage to one bungalow at Satara Rest Camp is now under control.

Business operations have resumed according to SANParks Spokesperson, JP Louw, who told the Herald that the camps are now open for business.

“Accidental fire from braai areas erupted and bungalows caught on fire. The first incident to be reported was in Satara, where only one bungalow burnt with minimal damages. Shortly after, a similar incident was reported from Olifants where three bungalows caught fire from the one bungalow that had a braai fire during windy conditions.”

Louw adds that guests were moved to alternative accommodation last night and the burnt areas have been barricaded.

“The camp remains open,” concludes Louw.
