Church of the Nazarene North-east District Golden oldies enjoy ‘beauty’ pageant

It was lively when the Church of the Nazarene North-east District hosted its first-ever pageant for senior citizens on Friday, September 6 at Hotel@Tzaneen.

The Golden Oldies Pageant allowed senior citizens to dress up and show off their talents. The event brought together the older members of the congregation to celebrate their wisdom, experience, and vibrant spirits.

One of the highlights of the event was a fashion show with participants strutting their stuff on the catwalk, modelling their best outfits and accessories, said Morongwa Martina Rapatsa, chairperson of Golden Oldies North-East District from Lenyenye Church of the Nazarene. “The event is hosted for our grandfathers and grandmothers from 55 years upwards,” she said. She said the idea originated in 2013 in America when a representative of the church, Mosibudi Elizabeth Komane of Lorraine Church of the Nazarene in Maruleng, returned from America after witnessing it in the US.

“They launched it the same year and presented it until 2022 when they handed it over to us.” She added that the participants gave witness to how they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and showed that pageants are not only for young people. The judges were Dikeledi Mangena, Motupa circuit manager; Nakedi Moyana, Mulati Primary School principal and Philinki Mabokachaba, a Napscom educator.

The winners of the church’s Golden Oldies pageant were Gideon Mangena (58) from Bismark Church, Trichartsdal zone; the second princess was Joyce Maenetja (63) from Thabeng Church, Tzaneen zone; Lina Mathebula (68) from Mphakane Church, GiyaniMalamulele zone was crowned queen; and Sabina Mabela (70) from Thabeng Church, Tzaneen zone was the first princess.
