Maruleng mourns four children who died in house fire

Sunday, July 21 was a heartbreaking day for the residents of Calais village as they laid to rest four children who died in a fire on Saturday, July 13.

The Shiluvane children, Jonathan (13), Mapula (15), Charity (7), and Vinolia (3) died after a fire gutted their one-roomed house. They were alone in the house after their mother left to prepare for her eldest son’s return from an initiation school.

Madikele Shiluvane, the spokesperson on behalf of the family, said at the funeral that the incident had left them devastated. “I do not even know what to say, I am struggling to talk at this moment,” he said. Maruleng Local Municipality Mayor Tsheko Musolwa said they were there to give support. “What happened here at Calais is unusual.
