Majeje netball team the best in the country

Majeje Secondary School’s u/14 netball team was crowned the national champions at the South African Schools Netball Championships over the weekend in Johannesburg.

The Phalaborwa-based team won all five games against schools from across the country in the Ubuntu division. According to the school principal, Nkhensani Duba, the team which consists of Gr 8 learners, has never lost any games in the league from school, district to provincial level. The players are mostly come from Lulekani Primary School where they were the national champions in the u/13 category last year. Duba says she is proud of the girls for outsmarting and outshining all the teams they came across from the beginning of the season.

“As a school, we are thrilled, especially against the background that we do not have proper sports facilities. “We don’t have a decent netball court; we only have a dusty field where they practice. “I have seen their commitment and the amount of work they put in,” she says. Duba appealed to businesses to help sponsor a netball court. She says the school excels in various sports. “I always say we are a school of excellence; we excel in both academics and sports.

We always allow our learners to participate in sporting activities, because we understand that some of them are not academically inclined, but are gifted in sports,” she says. Lulekani Circuit manager, Eunice Ntsanwisi also expressed her excitement about the team’s achievement. “I am proud of the school and blessed to be leading a circuit with so much talent and innovation. “We are excited that the players went to the same high school, and are able to track their progress as a team. “Their achievement needs to be brought to the attention of the MEC of Education and the Premier because they have put Limpopo on the map.”
